23rd April 2023 W4 Fourth Plinth unveiling with Dame Siân Phillips.

My appreciation for the people involved in this project and the tremendous work they do goes beyond words. Thank you so much, Abundance London for making it possible for my work ‘The Ceiling In The Sky’ to be seen on such a scale and by many people over the next six months.

Borrowed from the Fourth Plinth concept in Trafalgar Square – The Chiswick W4th Plinth is a rolling programme of temporary public art curated by Abundance London since September 2019. The first artwork to be displayed was a collage of music hall entertainers at the Empire Theatre, by artist Sir Peter Blake, a long time Chiswick resident. Every six months the large image, 4x4m, on the TfL brick wall of the railway embankment at Turnham Green Terrace will change, showcasing an exciting artwork, short-listed by Abundance London and voted on by the public. “We had thousands of votes for the W4th Plinth, a fitting response as we had so many hundreds of submissions, and we are very excited about our winner.”

I had the great pleasure of presenting Dame Siân Phillips with a limited edition gift print from ‘The Ceiling In The Sky’ in celebration of her 90th birthday. Dame Jane Elizabeth Ailwên Phillips DBE, known professionally as Siân Phillips, is a Welsh actress. She has performed the title roles in Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler and George Bernard Shaw’s Saint Joan and is also particularly known for her performance as Livia in the 1976 BBC television series I, Claudius.  Peter O’Toole was her husband and they played together in ‘Goodbye, Mr. Chips’, a film I adore.
