So, what’s the story with the #SalondesRefusés? . . . It all started in #1863 when future starts like #EdouardoManet, #PaulCezanne, #JamesMcNeilWhistler and #CamillePissarro were rejected by the jury of the official Academy Salon in Paris. The temperature between the progressives and the Academy was beginning to rise and even Napoleon III had started to feel the heat. His own autocratic approach wasn't terribly popular either, so in an attempt to quell a possible rebellion he decided to show his more liberal side. He insisted that a second exhibition be set up in opposition the Academy's Salon, so the public could decide whose approach to art was better. The name of the opposing 1863 show was Salon des Refusés (Salon of the Rejected). #NapoleonIII had unwittingly released the modern art genie, he had given the artists a state-approved platform and with it, the notion that there was an alternative to the Academy. A breakthrough year for modern art. . . . . Fast-forward 156 years and we find ourselves in the UK, getting ready for the 9th edition of #SalondesRefusés2019 Exhibition, brilliantly coordinated by #HappenstanceArtandFraming @happenstancegallery. A two-week extravaganza of artworks missed, unappreciated, misunderstood or sacrificed at the last minute by the Royal Academy Selection Committee, happening at #Margate during 25 July – 8 August 2019 and hosted by  #JosephWalesStudios . . . 🎬 Watch the video 📽 to see the work #AppNormalTelecommunications and a couple of Limited Edition Prints on show at @_josephwales_ (2 Dane Hill, Margate CT9 1QP) Scroll for invite & details. 🎥 . . .
